INDUSTRIAL ENGINEER

 

OBJECTIVES:

Support and drive Site improvement initiatives, projects, process, and productivity improvements within the Lynchburg Distribution Center Operations.  Collaborate with the Site Leadership Team to assess the current state, identify opportunities for enhancement, and formulate a comprehensive development plan for the site. The ideal candidate will possess advanced expertise and demonstrated implementation of LEAN and Six Sigma principles. Experience in implementing Lean and Six Sigma improvements within an FDA-regulated industry is a strong advantage.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee and champion the site's Operational Excellence Program.
  • Direct the following areas:
    • Labor management / labor standards.
    • Capital project support.
    • SOP development.
    • Warehouse Management System support.
  • Execute continuous improvement initiatives across the site, focusing on service, quality, lead time, and cost objectives.
  • Identify and lead initiatives that foster employee engagement.
  • Promote advanced concepts, tools, and training techniques of Lean, Six Sigma, and project management.
  • Develop and execute a roadmap for lean transformation.
  • Contribute to the formulation and dissemination of site vision, mission, values, operating philosophy, and annual goals.
  • Lead identification, development, and execution of cost reduction and productivity improvement projects.
  • Proficiently conduct complex data analysis to plan and enhance process and product capability.
  • Benchmark industry best practices and provide recommendations for improvement.

 

SCOPE OF POSITION:

  • Labor Management:
    • Execute labor management strategies with a focus on productivity.
    • Possess comprehensive grasp of operational efficiencies through engineering standards.
    • Develop and maintain precise labor standards per role/task.
    • Validate time standards through rigorous workload testing.

 

  • Site Support / Productivity Improvement:
    • Collaborate closely with warehouse management to comprehend area-specific objectives.
    • Gain firsthand experience in each functional area to deeply understand scope and challenges.
    • Conduct in-depth analysis of operations sequence, material flow, and organizational structure to delineate worker roles.
    • Spearhead continuous improvement/lean methodologies, identify enhancement opportunities, and engage site leadership to institute sustainable change.
    • Liaise with stakeholders to identify project and training requisites.
    • Offer mentorship, coaching, and training across all tiers for productivity measurement and improvement.
    • Contribute to Corrective and Preventive Action (CAPA) process and lead root cause investigations.
    • Leverage statistical methodologies and mathematical calculations to architect processes, staffing benchmarks, and production standards.
    • Maintain seamless volume commitments by systematically identifying and mitigating bottlenecks and capacity constraints.

 

  • Documentation/Reporting:
    • Foster and contribute to the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and processes.
    • Generate robust reporting and monitoring mechanisms tailored for the distribution network.
    • Formulate equipment, material, and workspace layouts to maximize efficiency.
    • Innovate and sustain the productivity reporting lifecycle.

 

  • System Development:
    • Act as a key supporting figure for Ops team, offering expert data analysis and BlueYonder system development support.
    • Actively participate in testing and evaluating a range of potential solutions.
    • Collaborate actively in the development, requirements specification, and rollout of new software/systems and operational functions.
    • Propose and integrate software enhancements to automate manual processes and bridge reporting gaps.

 

KEY RELATIONSHIPS:

  • Internal Relationships: Operations, Quality, IT, and Finance
  • Collaborate intensively with HR for management development.
  • External: Membership in operational excellence network.

 

QUALIFICATIONS/TRAINING:

  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant work experience.
  • Preferred Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification with demonstrated successes in targeted project support and program development.
  • Track record in driving continuous improvement in manufacturing/supply chain domains, specializing in Lean/Sigma, Shingo principles, facilitation, and training.
  • Exhibit robust project management and organizational prowess.
  • Display advanced capabilities in data-driven analytics.
  • Proficiency in varied software tools (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, CAD, Visio, Statistical Software, PowerBI).
  • Command over WMS and ERP systems with a deep-rooted understanding.
  • Masterful verbal and written communication competencies.
  • Demonstrate innovative problem-solving acumen with an unwavering solutions-oriented approach.
  • Proficiency in time study, ergonomics, and engineering software to engineer results.
  • Hold a BS or MS in Science or Engineering.
  • Adept application of lean manufacturing principles and tools in real-world settings.
  • Demonstrated achievements in fast-paced, high-tech, high-volume environments.
  • Exhibit superior communication, leadership, influencing, technical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Self-directed, highly motivated, and exceptional at prioritization and decision-making.
  • Skillfully align "operational excellence" strategy with on-site ambitions.
  • Accomplished program management skills with proven ability to manage network and matrix relationships.
