Purpose of Job:
Support all Microbiology laboratory release activities including but not limited to review of Sterility Testing, Environmental/Water/Bioburden monitoring, Particulate Matter Testing, Microbial Identification, Microbiology Investigations, and execute Special Projects as required. Assist with data compilation related to area trending. Assist Microbiology management to meet workload demands of the department. Serve in testing capacity as needed based on workload demands. Should be proficient in understanding of all Microbiology areas. Support data gathering during regulatory inspections. Provide coaching and training of junior technicians. Interacts with various facets of the organization including but not limited to operations, validation, chemistry, metrology and maintenance.
Key Activities:
Coordinate Microbiology data release activities as relates to Product Release and Disposition. Ensure timely review and approval of laboratory data. Maintain timely release of Microbiology Certificate of Analysis to the Batch Release group to ensure laboratory and Customer Service metrics are met.
Prepare and support investigations to ensure timely closure. Provide appropriate communication of investigations linked to product release to ensure timely resolution.
Support microbiology laboratory special projects including test method validation. Duties include but are not limited to design and write protocol/reports, execute protocol methodologies, analysis of data.
Conduct peer reviews of validation packages, rationale documents, or related area reports for fellow team members and provide feedback. Provide coaching to junior technician(s).
SOP Revisions. Review and revise accordingly microbiology procedures for enhancement, clarity and corrections. Provide training on new
procedure revision accordingly.
Trend Analysis Report. Assist with preparation and review of trending reports of Environmental and Water Monitoring.
Laboratory Testing. Execute Microbiology testing following appropriate procedures and compendia requirements. Prepare supplies for testing as needed.
Qualifications:
Education: BS in Biology, Microbiology or related life science
Experience: At least 5 years of Pharmaceutical or Medical Device industry experience with previous laboratory experience and extensive understanding of aseptic technique. Previous experience in aseptic manufacturing operations highly preferred.
Preferred Skills: College math and basic statistics courses. Computer skills are required (Excel, Word, and other customized systems). Good technical and communication skills. Technical and scientific writing skills required.
Knowledge/understanding of basic cGMP and good documentation/laboratories practices in a regulated facility. Demonstrate ability to manage multiple assignments and priorities simultaneously. Results oriented. Critical thinking skills and ability to troubleshoot.
