Position summary:

The Vision Engineer is part of the Contact Lens Engineering department and is responsible to: specify, design, develop, program, deliver and qualify integrated machine vision solutions for our automated contact lens and medical device manufacturing systems and cost improvement projects.  This experienced engineer will manage and execute vision projects in a fast-paced, multi-disciplined, cross-functional team environment.


Key responsibilities:

  • To design and develop the software and hardware required for our machine vision applications necessary to control the acquisition, display and disposition of real-time images from cameras and frame grabbers. 
  • Develop and implement new technologies, controls, and vision systems to improve cost and quality of existing strategic medical device manufacturing equipment. 
  • Facilitate internal resources and outside vendors in developing technical solutions for primary and secondary vision applications.  Interface with equipment vendors to ensure successful machine delivery, integration and manufacturing validation.
  • Design, program, implement, trouble shoot and qualify these automated machine vision applications.
  • Develop and manage project schedules / detailed work plans in order to meet overall program goals.  Communicate status of project activities on a regular basis. 
  • Support product, platform, and cost improvement programs by delivering qualified machine vision controls software.
  • Interface with SQA, QA and Operations to successfully validate software systems. 
  • Author and execute software test scripts and vision system qualifications.



  • Education:  BS in Electrical Engineering, Electro-Mechanical, Computer Systems Engineering, or other similar technology degree.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience with development of industrial vision applications and PLC programming with automated high-volume low-cost manufacturing and/or process control systems, including PLC’s, DCS’s, Machine Vision, motion control, robotics, HMI’s, SCADA and MES software. 
  • Experience programming vision applications in
  •         -LabVIEW
  •         -NI Image analysis tools and libraries
  •         -RSLogix
  •         -Cognex In-sight and VisionPro
  • Experience working in a cGMP / FDA regulated environment desirable.
  • Experience working with Lean Six Sigma tools desirable
  • SQL server expertise, especially Microsoft SQL server.
  • AB PLC and HMI programming experience. 
  • ACAD controls schematic experience
  • Knowledge of software development life cycle methodologies, SPC, DOE, statistical analysis and machine vision fundamentals a plus.  Experience with medical device or clean room environment a plus.
  • Specialized Training:  ISO-9000, ISO 13485, NFPA-79, GAMP 4/5, 21 CFR Part 11, AB PLC’s, Green Belt / Black Belt certified, medical device manufacturing experience desirable
