Position summary:
The Principal Controls and Automation Engineer provides technical leadership of Engineering projects and Project Management for new pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturing platforms and infrastructure, products, processes and cost improvements.

 

Key responsibilities:
•  Controls Automation Engineering responsibilities include the design, development and implementation of integrated, state-of-the-art automated manufacturing systems and control software applications.
•  Develop automation requirements for PLC / SCADA / MES controls hardware and software automation solutions for state-of-the-art capital projects; develop and implement integrated solutions for product line and/or capacity expansions.
•  Identify new technologies and automated systems that will reduce manufacturing and material costs and improve efficiencies.  Develop business case/justification around potential opportunities for review with leadership.
•  Develop data acquisition and performance measurement tools / techniques to gather and analyze critical data necessary to increase OEE through improved product cost, quality, process capability and manufacturing reliability.
•  Develop and implement isolated OT environments including network topologies and configurations to enable secure manufacturing systems.
•  Facilitate internal and external resources to ensure successful applications development and integration activities through manufacturing validation to established acceptance criteria.
•  Provide technical and controls core competency support to manufacturing operations and engineering within manufacturing sites across multiple business units (Lens Care, Pharma and Surgical).

•  Project Management responsibilities include leading multi-disciplined, cross-functional team(s) to deliver stated project objectives within cost, time, and quality constraints.
•  Partner with manufacturing sites to successfully create and implement project schedules and budget in order to meet overall program goals and capital programs.
•  Manage project schedules to ensure work is assigned and completed on time and within budget.  Oversee technical solutions and proactively manage project scope to customer expectations;  manage and approve scope changes.


Qualifications and experience:
•  Education:  BS in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.  Advanced degree desired.
•  Minimum 12 years experience with development, integration and project management of automated high-volume low-cost manufacturing and/or process control systems including PLC’s, HMI’s, SCADA, Historians, motion control, robotics, machine vision, MES and OEE systems software.
•  Experience with Pharmaceutical and/or Medical Device manufacturing with emphasis on Process and Packaging equipment design and operation, OEE improvements, project identification and execution in an Aseptic manufacturing environment highly desired.
•  Strong background with Sterile GMP guidelines, EU standards, Data Integrity regulations and GAMP5 validation.

•  Special Skills:  Experienced Project Management in the development and deployment of capital assets and systems;  PMI certification a plus.  Self-directed individual must possess excellent interpersonal, communication, leadership and project management skills within a fast-paced, cross-functional team setting.  Demonstrated proficiency in use of Lean Six Sigma Process Excellence tools desirable.  
•  Specialized Training:  Knowledge of industry regulations, software development life cycle methodologies, OT network infrastructures, statistical analysis / solid analytical skills, Microsoft Project, AutoCAD, SQL, PI Historian and industry-leading PLC, HMI and MES platforms.

As required by New York State's pay transparency bill, Bausch + Lomb provides a good faith minimum and maximum salary range of compensation for roles that can or will be performed, in New York State.  Actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and specific office location.  For New York State, the range of starting annual base pay for this role is $101,000 - $155,000.
