Objectives

Lead the development and implementation of innovative designs of optical ophthalmic devices (e.g. contact lenses) utilizing optical and mechanical modeling / design systems and statistical data analysis.  Act as product design subject matter expert of contact lens development projects and product advocate through product development and commercialization process.  Provide technical expertise in product design, material properties and data analysis in advancing design methodologies and capabilities. 

 

Responsibilities

  • Interface w/ customers and internal functions to define and develop product specifications and designs.
  • Develop contact lens designs using mechanical / optical modeling and data analysis.
  • Prepare design documentation including drawings, models, specifications and release documents.
  • Define and coordinate product testing (clinical and bench) requests.
  • Participate on product development teams acting as design subject matter expert and/or product advocate throughout the development process.
  • Perform data analysis of processing data during product/process development.
  • Prepare reports summarizing product design, testing and/or development data.
  • Develop and implement design methods for conceptualizing and optimizing contact lens designs.
  • Develop and implement procedures of design methods.

 

Requirements

BS or MS Mechanical Engineering, BioMedical Engineering or related curriculum (MS preferred)

Demonstrated expertise in developing mechanical models & designs w/ proficiency in CAD or other 3D modelling software

Demonstrated expertise w/ MS Office product (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and MS Project

Strong experience w/ statistical analysis applications (Minitab preferred)

Experience w/ programming using Matlab or similar analytical software

3-9 years relevant industrial experience in medical device metrology development

  • Subject matter expert in contact lens design and development
  • Technical Project coordination experience
  • Mechanical and optical design experience desired (CATIA/Zemax)
  • Proficient in applied statistics
  • Experience w/ regulated medical device development environment (ISO/FDA)
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills including demonstrated ability to interact and influence all levels of the organization
  • May involve occasional domestic or international travel vendors or other B+L sites.

As required by New York State's pay transparency bill, Bausch + Lomb provides a good faith minimum and maximum salary range of compensation for roles that can or will be performed, in New York State.  Actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and specific office location.  For New York State, the range of starting annual pay for this role is $70,000 to $110,000.
