Reporting to the Senior Vice President, Assistant General Counsel, Intellectual Property, the Senior Director, Patent Counsel, will be responsible for advising clients on various intellectual property matters, including patent applications, trademark registrations, and copyright protection. You will work closely with clients to understand their needs and provide comprehensive legal advice to protect their intellectual property rights.  The position plays a critical role in balancing legal risks with business priorities and ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations. 

 

We are seeking an individual with the utmost degree of professionalism and integrity, capable of handling highly sensitive and confidential matters, and with an industrious and self-motivated approach. Prior experience and expertise as counsel to a medical device and/or prescription pharmaceutical business is a must. 

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducting patent searches and providing advice on patentability and infringement issues
  • Drafting and prosecuting patent applications before the USPTO
  • Advising clients on patent portfolio management and patent licensing agreements
  • Conducting due diligence and providing legal opinions on intellectual property matters related to mergers and acquisitions

Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school
  • Admission to the Bar in at least one state
  • Registration with the United States Patent and Trademark Office
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in a law firm or in-house legal department, with a focus on the medical device and/or pharmaceutical industry in the United States and internationally.  Previous experience in the eye health industry is desired.
  • Strong analytical and research skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Experience in biotechnology or chemical engineering fields is a plus
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other departments and build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with an ability to clearly summarize complex issues for senior leaders.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills. 
  • Demonstrated commitment to ethical behavior and integrity in the workplace.
