Position summary:
The Asset Strategy Leader – Device & Capital Equipment is an experienced and influential leader with the ability to drive alignment and decision-making across multiple functions and levels within Bausch + Lomb. Serving as the matrix leader with overall accountability for one or more device assets—from concept through end of lifecycle—this individual guides and directs the creation and execution of comprehensive asset strategies and phase-appropriate strategies for capital equipment and device products. This responsibility requires integration of all functional activities relevant to the successful development, registration, manufacturing, and commercialization of device assets, with a specific emphasis on ensuring an integrated strategy and driving delivery across these elements. As the primary face of the asset(s) at Bausch + Lomb, the Asset Strategy Leader works with governance, functional leaders, R&D project management, cross-functional groups, and external development partners to advance and optimize the value of device and capital equipment assets consistent with their prioritization in the overall portfolio.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Chair the relevant Project Strategy Core Team(s), Serve as the enterprise leader and primary point of contact for device asset strategy, representing the project to Governance and senior management.
• Develop and articulate integrated cross-functional Global Project Strategies for all aspects of device and capital equipment product development, commercialization, and lifecycle management, ensuring timely and comprehensive approvals.
• Review and analyze emerging data objectively to drive the team toward recommendations that highlight opportunities, address risks, and proactively provide appropriate mitigations.
• Collaborate with all functions to ensure programs are appropriately resourced, stay within allocated budgets, and champion requests for incremental resources when justified.
• Track progress against the Target Product Profile (TPP) ensuring alignment with committed timelines and budgets in conjunction with the Portfolio Project Manager.
• Continually validate the scientific and commercial viability of device programs, developing clear Go/No-Go decision points and championing the program with objectivity and sound judgment.
• Act as a strategic advisor to cross-functional teams (e.g., Global Commercial, R&D, Regulatory, Operations), ensuring alignment on key functional deliverables.
• Establish close, ongoing ties with all team members and supporting teams, empowering and delegating appropriately while maintaining aligned efforts and a function-neutral perspective.
• Represent the asset in external interactions (e.g., advisory boards, regulatory meetings) when broad leadership representation is required.
• Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and competitive landscape in the device and capital equipment space, leveraging insights to inform strategy and execution.
• Coach and mentor team members, fostering a high-performance culture and developing future leaders.
• Excel at communication, ensuring clarity, transparency, and alignment across all levels of the organization.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
• Bachelor’s degree required; advanced (Doctoral-level or MBA) degree highly preferred.
• Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience as a leader in medical device or capital equipment Commercial, R&D, Regulatory, or Operations settings, ideally across multiple functions and global environments.
• Demonstrated experience in device product development, with particular emphasis on capital equipment, surgical devices, or ophthalmic technologies.
• Proven track record of leading cross-functional teams and driving complex device programs from concept through commercialization and lifecycle management.
• Deep understanding of device regulatory requirements (e.g., FDA 21 CFR Part 820, ISO 13485, IEC 60601), quality systems, and the integration of regulatory, clinical, and commercial strategies for device assets.
• Experience following a single device asset or program through all phases of development and commercialization is preferred; aggregate experience across multiple assets is also valued.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate with and influence senior executives.
• Strong analytical, strategic planning, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assimilate new knowledge relevant to device development and commercialization.
• Ability to objectively exercise judgment, create pragmatic solutions to complex cross-functional problems, and be accountable for informed decision-making in the face of uncertainty or incomplete data.
• Passion for innovation in medical devices and a commitment to advancing patient outcomes through effective asset strategy leadership.
