OBJECTIVES/
PURPOSE OF JOB

A buyer is responsible for leading the procurement of assigned goods and services that meet

the organization’s quality, cost, and delivery requirements. This role ensures the strategic

sourcing of materials, manages supplier relationships, and drives continuous improvement

in supply chain performance. The buyer collaborates cross-functionally with internal

stakeholders to forecast demand, assists in negotiating contracts, and mitigate supply risks,

contributing directly to operational efficiency and cost optimization.

 

KEY ACTIVITIES/
RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assists with negotiating contracts and agreements with suppliers to secure favorable terms and conditions.
  • Responsible for following B&L procurement procedures.
  • Collaborate with all functions including but not limited to R&D, Quality, and Program Management to ensure high level of performance and strong customer service.
  • Ability to participate and lead projects for assigned categories.
  • Responsible for delivering established cost savings targets through competitive bidding process, and effective negotiation of supplier service agreements. Manage all supply-based costs and ensure contract compliance.
  • Ensures supplier-related risks, cost, quality, and delivery are controlled and mitigated.
  • Responsible for performing all aspects of sourcing, procurement activities in support of major initiatives including stakeholder requirement analysis, identification of bidders list, RFP/RFQ development, conducting competitive bid events, supplier selection, negotiation, risk mitigation, supply continuity, and supplier performance.
  • Cultivate and maintain strategic relationships with key suppliers to ensure alignment with B+L’s goals.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across functional teams.
  • Motivated, self-driven with a determination to succeed and the ability to manage change.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to leverage data and market insights to drive decision-making. You are open to new ideas and believe in continuous learning to develop new competencies. Ability to think and work independently and anticipate changing business, project, and supplier needs.
  • Research and evaluate suppliers based on price, quality, selection, service, support, availability, reliability, production capabilities, and capacity.

QUALIFICATIONS/
TRAINING

 

 

 

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • MRP experience, vendor relationships, and critical thinking abilities
  • Typically, 2+ years’ experience in procurement, strategic sourcing, supplier management, or related roles, preferably in medical device manufacturing industry.
  • Experience in manufacturing environment
  • Strong negotiation skills and ability to influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Project management skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple initiatives simultaneously.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, Excel, & Word
  • Math and analytical skills to adequately analyze and interpret supplier quotes, contracts, and other supplier-related issues.
  • Problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Experience with contract negotiations, supplier development, global sourcing preferred
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally as required (10-20% typical) for supplier visits, audits, etc.

 

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • AS400 experience
  • Advanced degree (e.g., Bachelor, Master, etc.) in Engineering, Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or related field preferred, but not required.
