The Plant Controller / Finance Manager is a key member of the Clearwater Operations Leadership Team and serves as the primary finance business partner for site leadership. This role is responsible for end-to-end plant financial management, with a strong focus on cost accounting, financial planning, and operational performance. By partnering cross‑functionally, the Plant Controller drives improved financial outcomes, including EBITDA performance, cost optimization, and inventory reduction initiatives.

 

This position reports to the Senior Director of Finance – Global Manufacturing.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

Strategic Business Partnership

Act as the primary finance partner to the Clearwater Operations Senior Leadership Team, providing financial insight to support decision-making and operational excellence.
Translate financial data into actionable insights that improve profitability, cost structure, and working capital.

 

Financial Planning & Analysis

Lead the annual budgeting, quarterly forecasting, and long-range planning processes for the site.
Prepare and present annual budgets, forecasts, and financial performance updates to senior management.
Develop and maintain cost models in collaboration with Planning and Supply Chain to ensure alignment with budget and operational goals.

 

Cost Accounting & Manufacturing Finance

Oversee all aspects of plant cost accounting, including standard costing, variance analysis, and inventory valuation.
Lead the annual standard cost roll and ensure accurate inventory valuation in accordance with corporate and accounting standards.
Analyze manufacturing, labor, and purchase price variances; identify risks and opportunities; and provide recommendations to mitigate exposure and improve future financial performance.

 

Reporting, Controls & Compliance

Direct the month-end close process for the site, including management and corporate reporting and reconciliation of related balance sheet accounts.
Ensure strong internal controls and compliance with company policies and accounting standards.
Support annual external audits and quarterly reviews related to cost accounting and inventory.

 

Continuous Improvement & Cost Optimization

Champion Enterprise Excellence and continuous improvement initiatives across the site, identifying opportunities for process improvement, cost reduction, and inventory optimization.
Partner with Operations, Supply Chain, and Engineering to drive sustainable cost savings initiatives.

 

People Leadership

Directly supervise and develop one Senior Financial Analyst, providing coaching, performance feedback, and professional development support.

 

Additional Responsibilities

Support ad hoc analyses and special projects as required by site and global finance leadership.

 

 

Required Skills & Competencies

 

Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present to senior leadership.
Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
Experience working with large ERP systems (SAP, BPCS, PeopleSoft preferred).

 

Qualifications

 

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
8+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience.
5+ years of manufacturing or cost accounting experience.
CPA or CMA certification preferred.
